Kencana is a DC-based Deep House music artist. We worked together to create a music video for his single “The Beautiful Way Things Appear.” I used a style that mimics the collision of Indonesian culture and modern aesthetics in the song.
The GIFs above are selected sections I have both illustrated and animated for this project. The fully animated video is currently in progress.
Before beginning animation, I created and presented these storyboards to the client. The illustrations I made are currently being rigged and animated in After Effects.
Close-ups of the illustrations I will be animating for this music video. All files were made in Illustrator and converted to shape layers in After Effects.
I compiled references inspired by Javanese batik dyeing, Balinese Barong dances, 60’s pop-art, and internet icons. This served as a basis for the illustrative style of the music video.
